Poem: Hope For Us All

A few thoughts on the world as the year turns. Happy New Year everyone. :)

Hope For Us All

As we move forward into a new year

I look at a world full of darkness and fear

A world full of hate and a world full of war

And I desperately wish it could be something more

A world which is hopeful in heart and in mind

A world which is tolerant, humble and kind

A world which is loving, a world that just cares

A world where good business helps people, not shares

A world where our planet means more than just earth

A world not exploited, for that’s its true worth

A world in which people mean more than great wealth

A world in which profit stops impacting health

A world where unique isn’t something to smother

A world in which people respect one another

A world where a difference is to be embraced

Where all can achieve and wise knowledge is chased

A world where newcomers are welcome indeed

And given our help when they are in great need

A world in which power means less than a life

A world without pride in the gun or the knife

A world without bullies who punch, break or troll

Or start running a nation and crushing its soul

A world where divisions are healed and not stoked

Where one’s hurt isn’t ripped at or damaged or poked

‘Til divides are a chasm and friendship is broken

Over chants, waving flags and cold spite harshly spoken

A world where a human is simply our kin

Who cares what religion or nation or skin?

A world where all people can have the same chance

To grow and to rise and to choose their romance

A world which is fair and a world which is free

A place we can live in and just simply be

And if we can do this and make our world bright

A planet for all, one of hope, peace and light

And escape vile disaster that longs to befall

Then maybe – just maybe – there’s hope for us all.
